Settlement Services

Immigrants, whether newly arrived or long-established, need assistance in their process of settlement and adjustment to our City’s socio-economic and cultural environment. MAGMA assists individuals at different phases of their settlement process. We help recently arrived immigrants and also assist settled immigrants who continue to require social and government services. Our Settlement Counsellors provide supportive one-on-one counselling, referral, information and orientation, interpretation, crisis intervention, and orientation workshops.

Language Services

MAGMA’s language department provides newcomers with free English language classes funded by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada and the Province of New Brunswick. Our classes are offered from beginner to advanced levels. They help improve listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) is our general day time program but we also offer other specialized classes, such as our English Conversation Circle (ECC), our Professional English Language Training (PELT) and the Francophone International Student Retention Program (FISRP). Each week students learn and apply new, expanded English skills with their classmates. Instructors encourage active participation as well as completion of assigned homework.
